by Holly Norris:
“Genderpanic” is a self portrait of a queer woman and explores the tensions and anxieties surrounding daily choices of dressing and presenting one’s gender.
It was filmed with a Bolex camera on 100 feet of 16mm film. The negative and positive were edited together by hand with hundreds of splices. The effect at the beginning and end of the film was created by running the film through a sewing machine. And of course since the film was not created in digital format and digitizing 16mm film costs a fortune, this is a recording of the film being projected in class, so the quality has suffered…
i really love this. i personally recommend watching it while listening to machine gun by portishead, but maybe that’s just me.
