what i wore: december

december

well i sure am late on this one. here’s a quick post of what i wore in december, so i can bring you up to speed and show you what i wore in january. phew! these are more work and dedication than i anticipated!

december1

i started the month by travelling light, and heading off to visit my parents for the first week of december.

getting ready for a friend date!

a date to see my dear friend ashlee in trenton! we went to the quinte mall, of course, my old teen stompin’ grounds, and i fawned over beautiful books like this alexander mcqueen one. why didn’t i get it!!!

my new favourite dress, hands down. here it is again later in the month, paired with cool new tights from my mom (click the photo if you want to see better details):

i got it at lucia f! it’s hard to sell things there, instead of getting paid i tend to trade with other sellers! such good stuff there.

cleaning out the closetthis probably my most “outside the box” look of december. definitely a new kind of thing for me: animal print. i’ve never owned anything animal print, ever. but i kind of love it these days? feeling like i’m channeling slutty badass housewifes, i.e. peg bundy. when i bought it, my sister jasmine dolled me up:

and let me hang out and cuddle with her awesome dogs.

now for some more “professional lady” looks:

working on december 23rd, my sad attempt at looking festive!

flapperflappertights

my sister bought me those tights for my birthday, and the photos don’t do them justice at all! i layered them over red tights so it was warm enough for a december evening date.

camera presents!

playing with my new cameras and lenses.

date night: the artist

that black flapper style 60s dress above is what i wore under this coat. i took simon on a date to go see the artist (WHICH I LOVED) and people were staring at us and pointing. it happens when you look this good 🙂

NYEnyetights

last but not least, here are some really bad outfits of my fantastic new year’s eve outfit. we had a pretty low key night but it’s always a good excuse to get super dressed up. a neighbour stranger told us he always loved our style, which was very nice! glitter glitter glam. it’s where it’s at.

PHEW! january coming soon, i hope that satiates your appetite for my outfits for now.

november: what i wore this month

nov 26thanyone in canada can tell you we’ve had a surprisingly mild winter so far. usually, in québec city, we can expect our first snowfall in early november. this year, however, we’ve been holding off the snow for the most part – in fact, i think i’ve only see three little snowfalls that have hardly lasted. so obviously this has had a huge impact on how i’ve been dressing! i’m always happy to stave off the winter boots a wee bit longer.

without further ado, here’s a selection of some of my favourite november outfits.

on my way to see sandro perri & ryan driver at l’agitée, a really really fantastic show. impossible spaces is definitely one of my favourite albums of 2011!

september: fresh start

a photo of julia, a young femme presenting person, standing next to a silver graffiti that reads SMILE. she is not smiling.

i’ll be the first to admit, i’ve fallen off the wagon. i promised myself i wouldn’t become one of those bloggers who starts off every blog post by apologizing about how they haven’t been blogging lately… but looky here. i have valid excuses, however. i’ve been working full-time (researching, writing, and reporting for a local radio station that i love) and i’ve let myself get wrapped up in it. not to mention a whole bunch of other summer adventures i won’t mention quite yet.

poster by flexib, for the “something from the meatcase, linda?” tour

since i last posted, my life has changed a whole lot; namely for the good. scratch that, namely for the exceptional. august brought nearly everyone i hold near and dear to me to one of my favourite places in the world. i caught up with old friends, the wonderful salima and helped throw together an event for the amazing karol who was on tour with a bunch of friend. two of my best friends in québec city moved to greener pastures (guelph and yarmouth, respectively), and i’m starting to miss them lots. hurricane irene hit me surprisingly hard, breaking my camera and ripping the electrical wiring out of my house. eleven days without power helps put things into perspective, let me tell you. not to mention, since i last posted i’ve lopped off 14 inches of hair and gotten a new pair of specs. i’ve got a lot of thoughts i want to put to paper (what’s new?!) but in the meantime i felt like i should assure you the dead air is not a bad thing. it means things are good.

without further ado, here’s some photos of how i look these days!

– slip worn as a dress thrifted from emmaüs, 5$
– vintage (deadstock) blue cardigan, free from le vestiaire. i would bestow upon it the title of BEST cardigan ever if only it had pockets. it’s got these great scallopped edges
new glasses from clearly contacts which set me back a whole 10$. best sale ever.

a close up portrait of julia wearing large cat eye glasses looking at the camera

earrings by anne-louise laflamme snatched at le coeur de loup flea market. i’ve always enjoyed her designs but it wasn’t until i spotted her latest record ones that i found a pair i felt suited me to a t. similar ones here.

bag thrifted from value village in ste foy, summer 07. if only i had one in every colour of the rainbow!

the buttons are both gifts from wonderful friends: typewriter from karina and hand reading pin from sves.

ta-dam!

whirlwind of springtime: announcements!

julia on a bike

in the whirlwind of the spring, the sunny days, friends moving away, not to mention working full-time… my poor lonely blog has gotten lost in the shuffle. now! don’t go thinking i’ve abandoned you. it is not because of lack of inspiration or writing fodder, but rather, lack of time (as i have written about before). let’s keep this post short and sweet: i am working three jobs right now. two, i’ve been working since the fall. the third is brand new and very exciting.

facebook icon that reads À L'ALLURE GARÇONNIÈRE

after two and a half years selling vintage clothes online, i am now officially selling them in a real brick and mortar store! if you’re ever in québec city, stop by and check it out. Boutique Lucia F is a great independent store that i am really excited to be a part of. this is something i have wanted to do for ages and it feels really nice. here are some photos of the store and my clothes in it!

you can now “like” me on Facebook. at the moment, i am mostly posting about the vintage clothes i am selling Boutique Lucia F, but soon i hope to use Facebook as a way of showcasing my writing as well (inspired by how amber shares her posts online). i’ve got my fair share of mixed feelings about Facebook but i think for networking and resources it can’t really be ignored anymore.

so that’s a very quick update about my life! soon, i hope to share articles here about everything to being a queer femme slut to why there is no such thing as “bathing suit season” or a “bikini body.”

stay badass,

julia
